You Tiao @ Pavillion food republic for Taufufa

ST: After having our dimsum in damansara PJ, we went off to Pavillion to do some shopping.
Few hours of window shopping later, I suggested we have taufufa. No shopping is complete without some dessert right? :p hehe. We went down to Food Republic on lower ground floor to this small stall called "You Tiao." We ordered their famous taufufa (RM3.20) and yau char kway(RM1.40).

Their taufufa is one of the best I've tried. Look at how shiny and glistening it appears in the picture! The texture is so smooth and silky. I'd say it practically melts in your mouth. Now I usually get my taufufa from an uncle in SS2 who sells taufufa (RM1.60) and soya bean just opposite of Savemart in the mornings. His taufufa is close to second to this one in "You Tiao." So for those taufufa lovers living near PJ area, if you think its a hassle to go all the way to KL for good taufufa, you might want to give this uncle's taufufa a try. =) Usually he'd be there around 10am to 3pm. You won't miss him as he's always parked right in front of Savemart in a small white truck. The texture is a bit different in the sense that it's slightly thicker than You Tiao's. However, in terms of freshness, they are at par with one another. You might wonder, how can you tell if it's fresh? Well, as long as it doesn't give you that sourish aftertaste. I get annoyed whenever I try other stall's taufufa and it gives you that slight hint of sourishness. Disgusting...

Now for the yau char kway, its quite crispy and surprisingly doesn't tastes as oily as the normal yau char kway you'd get from other places like 'pasar pagi.' "You Tiao" also serves porridge, soya bean, and other fried snacks which I'd like to try the next time I go there.

Overall, definitely a two thumbs up!!

Weng Heong @ Klang for Bakuteh

ST: This afternoon, we decided to go to Restraunt Weng Heong in Klang which is near Taman Rashna chinese school. The place was packed as usual!

We ordered pork with some fat (I insisted that we ordered lean meat but daniel says it'll be nicer with some fat - though I thought it didn't really taste any different :p), and some veggies on the side as well (not shown in the pic) and of course the yau char kway (no bakuteh is complete without it!).

The soup was delicious! The flavour of the soup was just right--it was not too thick or too light for my tastebuds.
The meat on the other hand was quite tender and juicy which is the way I like my meat. =)

In terms of the ambience, its quite noisy. But I guess that's what you'd expect in a normal bakuteh restaurant considering the fact that there were tons of people. I'd definitely recommend this place for a family gathering or just catching up with friends. Though, you might need to raise your voice up abit to be heard. :p

Look at how much we loved the soup!

If you'd like to try, here's their address:

Restoran Weng Heong
No 28, 30 Jalan 5,
Kawasan 16, Taman Intan
41300 KlangSelangor

There's actually quite a number of other Bakuteh restaurants in that area. We'll definitely try the others next time. And I guess that'll be for another entry. =)
